Dog gone lazy

bootcamp_large.jpg

Another duck season rolls by while I am contiuously learning more and more about the “ultimate sport”, as some might call it. Of course we all know that duck hunting isn’t complete if you don’t have a “retriever”. I wrote the last word in quotes because some would consider almost any K-9 as a hunting companion. What I am looking for is a solid retriever. I’m talking about the loyal, water loving friend all men should have. Sadly enough I have been rather slack in my efforts to get Dixie into the ole’ winter routine. She went out with us once for early teal season and made her first retrieve. She sat impatiently under my gun waiting for that one sound to send her into a frenzy. BANG!!!…which in her terms means “Go get the freaking bird!!!!!!” Let’s just say steadiness doesn’t suite her at the moment, but she doesn’t realize what is fixing to transpire. Later in the season we went on another trip taking all the pups. Dixie, Allie, and Hudson all were in attendance. The first hour, she did ok as she sat patiently waiting for me to raise the gun. The rails flying to and fro were beginning to set her into a fetching frenzy. No matter what the command, she was ready to go catch a bird right out of the air. “SIT!!!”, I said for the 50th time. No more than 30 minutes later, she was spinning in circles chasing her tail. Then she began rolling in the mud and growling at the limb laying to her side. Allie and Hudson now had their attention on Dixie, as did I. As the weather got colder and the water began to freeze, I didn’t take her anymore because I didn’t have a vest for her. Although she wasn’t the “best” hunting dog this season, I thought she did fairly well. Just the other night I took a picture of her, and I am convinced she has gone soft. It won’t be long and she will be in boot camp, becoming the dog I know she can be. It may be a shock at first, but with time she will love me more for it. I may even take her squirrel hunting a few times….who knows…

good luck this spring,
Dewayne

Early season honkers and College Football

bama.jpg

Well, it’s that time of year again. Not only does the first of September signal the beginning of goose season, but it also prepares us for another season of bama football. I’m sure that everyone will do the right things this year and pull for the Crimson Tide!

In the spirit of the upcoming football season, I thought I would share a joke with you. If you have any that you would like me to post, email them to me. Since I am an administrator on the site, you should think twice about sending any jokes degrading my beloved Tide! :)

Enjoy…

A man takes his wife, (who use to be an Auburn Cheerleader) hunting, and impresses on her again and again that “If you shoot a deer, don’t let someone else claim that they shot it also and that since they killed it… it’s their deer!”
So … he’s in his stand hardly for 10 minutes when he hears his wife shooting nearby. He rushes over to her stand to find her pointing her gun at a man who is loudly disclaiming… “It’s your deer lady..It’s your deer… Just lemme get my saddle off it!!!!”

Hudson

For some time now, I have been wanting to post pictures of our pupils (a.k.a. future hunting dogs). I guess it’s Hudson’s turn to be in the spotlight. Hudson is a great looking chocolate lab and approximately 15 months old (correct me if I’m wrong, Daniel). As a young pup he began tagging along on some hunting trips and has become a really good retriever. Hudson only wishes he could slide as well as Dixie. It’s sorta a joke between us because Dixie has recently learned to slide down the slide at the playground. I still have no idea what good that does her in the hunting realm, but she loves it! Now I use it as a reward if she does well in training. That might sound crazy, but to each his own.

Check out the images of Hudson below…

Here is Hudson as a young pup. They are cute at this age, and then they grow up. You can tell from this picture that he was going to be a really good looking dog.

Hudson as a young puppy

The first time I saw this picture, I thought it looked like some sort of ad. I was trying to figure out what Daniel was trying to sell.

Hudson posing for the camera

I believe this was a younger picture of Hudson on one of his first hunts. It looks as if he has the hang of things.

Good Boy Hudson!

Send me your favorite picture!

Hey guys,

Good news, the season is just around the corner!!! In order to get ourselves all hyped up, I wanted to post everyone’s favorite hunting picture along with their trophies. If you will email me your pictures, I will post them on the site. I’m kinda tired of looking at Ethan’s boat!!! ;)

Let’s see some pics!!

Ethan’s newest toy

Hey guys,

Ethan emailed me a few days ago and sent me some pictures of his new boat. I guess that means he will take us all out fishing sometime soon….right Ethan? Anyway, one of the pictures also shows how big his puppy “Goose” has gotten since the last time we saw him. Goose will make an excellent stud dog no doubt. Also, he was telling me about a boat blind he was getting for his b’day. Make sure to send us some pictures once you get it installed! I plan to build my own sometime in the near future and will post the pictures of my progress or lack thereof. Enjoy the pics!!!

Homemade Blinds

Hey guys,

Early goose season is just around the corner. It’s time to get the boats out and in good working order. My goal is to build a homemade boat blind before the season begins, which doesn’t leave me much time. I have done a little research and have an idea on what type of blind I want to build. Daniel and I were discussing all of this after training this morning, so I decided to help you guys out and post a few links that might be of some help. Check them out…

Weekly Slacker Award

The Slacker of the week award (or past three weeks) is…… Matt Jones!! Congradulations Matt, now get your butt back to training in the mornings!

With all due respect to Matt, he had someone break into his truck last week. We will hunt them down if you want Matt. It would be great target practice for the upcoming season. I wonder if Dixie can fetch a person yet? lol :) Anyway, They busted the driver’s side window and stole his cd player. I know sometimes that stuff takes a while to get fixed, but it’s time to return…

Dewayne

Order a Custom Rod

rcdd.jpg

For those of you who don’t know, a buddy and I run a North Alabama fishing website and have began building custom rods. We by no means consider ourselves experts, but I guarantee good quality craftsmanship will be put into the rod (better than you can buy in a store.) Since neither of us are rich (surprising I know) we have decided to sell the rods at cost for now. This will not only help get our name out there to all the custom rod lovers, but it will also allow us to gain more experience by building more rods. For more information please visit our website: Custom Rods

Thanks,
Dewayne

Aug. 4th: Training Day at Kenneth’s

Hey guys,

Kenneth has planned on having another training/question session at his house on Saturday. If you can make it, please let either him or me know asap. This will give him an idea on how many to expect and what to set up for. He also posted this invite on www.alducks.com. For more information check out the following link: Training Session

Hope to see everyone there,
Dewayne
