Photo Journal: Training Last Saturday
Last Saturday Kenneth was kind enough once again to invite us out for some training. It was a beautiful morning and was pretty cool for the most part. The dogs had a blast as we ran them through some basic gundog drills. It was my first time to load a dummy launcher. We used four launchers total, two of which were Kenneth’s design. He warned me to be extremely cautious in loading them if I wanted to keep my face in one piece. I decided to do exactly what he said. I wouldn’t want to mess up these good looks! Of course the pups also spent some time in the water chasing bumpers and pretty much whatever else they saw. I finally remembered to take my camera and managed to take a few pictures in between drills. I put together a photo journal for you to check out. Let me know what you think and we can start doing more of these.
This is the pond in Kenneth’s field where he does some of his training. It is an extremely useful tool when you actually begin the gundog drills. If you look closely, you can see the decoys he has spread around in the water. It provides a very realistic scenario for the pups.

That’s Kenneth in the front carrying the bumpers. He is a very generous guy and loves to work with these dogs. He definitely knows his stuff. It’s nice to have someone to give you pointers and point out the small detail while training your pup. That’s Daniel in the back with his dog “Hudson” who came out there with me last weekend.

Daniel and Hudson working on a drill during the Saturday morning session. Hudson is a good looking dog.

That’s my pup Dixie looking on as Hudson is going through a few drills. Man, I hope she was really soaking that stuff in!

I love to see that kind of drive in a young dog. Dixie didn’t even slow down as she plunged right in after the bumper.

Once the waves settled, Dixie was still on her route to bring back the bumper. This time she left the decoys alone.

I was really hapy with how Dixie did last Saturday. Her only trouble now is bringing the bumper to me and delivering to hand. It won’t be long and she will have to go through force fetch. I can hardly wait…

Isn’t this a dirty little dog. Oh well, I’m just happy she enjoys fetching. Hudson also did very good. If they keep this up they might actually become some good hunting dogs. Dixie seemed pretty confident on this whole retrieving thing.

I thought this was a pretty good picture. She looks to be in deep concentration over something. I think labs are some really pretty dogs. I can’t believe how fast they grow during the first few months.

Thanks Kenneth!!!
As you can tell, we had a lot of fun. I hope to see a larger crowd there next time. You will find it to be very informative and quite useful. Matt, you need to straighten out your boss. Tell them you got training to do! And Chase, i know what your problem was….LOL Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed the pictures. I am sure I will see most of you in the mornings.
take care,
Dewayne

I would just like to that Kenneth again for his help. It means so much when someone takes time out of their schedule to help. Thanks Kenneth and thanks Dewayne for the organization. Hope to do it all again soon.
Daniel
I agree, it’s hard starting out when there is nobody to help. No problem man….I have really enjoyed it! I hope that we can all get together this winter and do some hunting.
We will definatly let the dogs share some sunrises over the dekes.
Yeah, Dixie is pumped already…I’m ready too!
